European Trail Orienteering Championships 2026: Everything You Need to Know

The European Trail Orienteering Championships (ETOC) is one of Europe's biggest TrailO events, bringing together the continent's best Trail Orienteers to compete in PreO (Precision Orienteering), TempO (the ‘sprint’ form of TrailO), and Relay competitions. Athletes are tested on their ability to interpret complex maps and terrain with exceptional accuracy.

ETOC 2026

The European Trail Orienteering Championships (ETOC) 2026 is taking place in Szczecin, Poland, from 31 July to 3 August 2026. This is the biggest Trail Orienteering event in Europe and one of the highlights of the international TrailO season.

A total of 187 athletes from 21 countries are competing for the championship titles. The event is organized by the Polish Orienteering Association under the International Orienteering Federation (IOF).

Junior class for the first time

This year for the first time there is a Junior (J) class, and it’s great that 15 nations have entered 46 Juniors in all (20 years old or younger at the end of the calendar year) dreaming of winning the first-ever Junior TrailO medals.

What is Trail Orienteering?

Trail Orienteering (TrailO) is a type of orienteering where people of all physical abilities can compete on equal terms. Instead of running fast, the sport focuses on accurate map reading, careful observation, and making the correct navigation decisions. Participants stay on marked paths and use a map to identify the correct control point, making TrailO a true test of navigation skills.

World Trail Orienteering Championships (WTOC) – 2027

The World Trail Orienteering Championship is held every other year and gives the possibility to find the best athletes in the world. The competition is held over a week and contains 3 events: PreO, with a two-day competition, TempO and Relay.
