Know About the FISU World University Championship Orienteering

The FISU World University Championship Orienteering is an international university sports competition organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) in partnership with the host country and the International Orienteering Federation (IOF).
Unlike the World Orienteering Championships (WOC), where athletes represent their national elite teams, this championship is exclusively for university students and recent graduates. It combines high level competition with cultural exchange, allowing student-athletes from around the world to compete while promoting friendship and education through sport.

History of the FISU World University Championship Orienteering
The FISU World University Championship Orienteering began in 1978 in Jyväskylä, Finland, where 129 athletes from 17 countries competed in the first edition. Since then, a further several editions have taken place, with the number of participants continually increasing. The 2016 edition in Miskolc, Hungary, set a new record with 266 athletes from 34 countries.

Who Can Participate?
The FISU World University Championship is open only to eligible university athletes.
Generally, participants must:
Be enrolled in a recognized university or higher education institution or have recently graduated within the eligibility period defined by FISU.
Be at least 18 and no older than 25 years of age on 31 December of the year of the event (age range specified in the FISU regulations and entry forms of the concerned Event)
Be selected by their national university sports federation based on their country's selection process.
How Do Athletes Qualify?
There is no direct online registration for individual athletes.
The usual qualification pathway is:
Compete in university and national level orienteering competitions.
Perform well enough to be noticed by your country's university sports federation.
Be selected by the National University Sports Federation.
Receive official nomination to represent your country at the championship.
Each participating nation decides its own athlete selection process, so the qualification criteria may vary from country to country.
